Woodward day at Saratoga with 12 “tough” races. The big hoss is Frosted, who I find interesting and a little troubling to play as a “Free bingo Square”. While I have no knocks on Frosted and his last two races are both excellent, without being so fast as to signal a ‘bounce”. I am still a little uncomfortable with him, noting that every effort has been followed by a “space”. So it’s hard to know if he’s coming into Saturday’s race in a the same form.
That being said, his last two races are both terrific. I had his Met Mile in an 80.0 and his “easy win in The Whitney” was a 79.0. And obviously, he could have run even faster in both… In both cases, Frosted took control and raced in the best part of the track – so I am not anxious to add much for ground loss. That’s the facts as I see them. I just can’t help but notice that in Dubai he was beaten by Hopportunity and others that can’t outrun a 79.0 figure yet.
I guess my point is – that everyone is talking this horse as “the best thing since sliced white-bread”, but my view is he’s a very good horse, with two excellent races, but he has lots of spaces as well. Meanwhile, not that long ago he was finishing behind good horses like Hopportunity and Mubtaahij – so he is not a “lock” to me. I suppose I will make some horizontal plays, and I will have a few small tickets to “protect” against a surprising misstep on Frosted’s part. But he should win!
