Instagrand can’t go on in Gotham…
Jerry Hollendorfer has carefully prepared this horse’s road to the Kentucky Derby, after 2 stellar sprint races relatively early in his 2-year old career. Clearly, he was better than, than he is now. He sat chilly off a very fast pace, which was great for starters. Then when asked he didn’t respond with an electrifying move, but was cutting into the lead with some effectiveness. Then as he was taking the lead, he clearly shorten stride and struggled mightily to get to the wire, very well beaten while in a desperate photo for 3rd money, some 4 or 5 lengths behind the Haikel and Mind Control. It would be one thing if someone got out in front of him, ran some decent fractions and he simply couldn’t go past the speed.
But that was not the case today, he barely got by the leader and wasn’t close to the fast closers. Maybe, JH didn’t have him cranked up… sure we will hear that type of commentary. But I have to ask – out loud – how can this horse, be ready for the KD in less than 2 months.
Beyond that, this will work out to be one of the worst form lines you can possibly have. If any of you are interested, just send me an e-mail and I will explain the WORST FORM LINE… but you have to ask…send me an e-mail!
Then, after watching the “terrible effort of Instagrand”, I was happily loaded up on Oxy Lady in the finale. My numbers were 3 over 2,9,10,11 and REVERSE. My exacta play on Race Day Las Vegase, so JJ Castellano, one of the best “in-tight” riders of his time, managed to get cut off at the 3/16th pole… but re-rallied to save the exacta… while being MUCH THE BEST! I have to say, he was too carefull in handling this filly that appeared to be several lengths the best. Sometimes it jus goes that way…
Down at Tampa Bay, as most of you know, my selection of Tacitus was a solid winner paying $19.80. I double keyed the race with Tacitus and #8 The Right Path (off at 25/1)… Winning with Tacitus was a good thing!
