Talking Handicapping with my players…

I received an e-mail from one of our players… Here is both his question and my answer… feel free to ask a handicapping question… just send me an e-mail…

Keep in mind, I use Highly detailed SPEED FIGS, to generate my Projected Power Numbers… there are many ideas that speed figures allow us to investigate and form opinions on that are not readily available from basic past performance materials…

e-mail question from BK

Dear Jerry

Know you put your figures together for tomorrow’s show. I was wondering in looking at both races how do you separate Game Winner and Improbable who seem to have run the same races with exactly the same final times? Is it possible to say Game Winner ran the best versus stronger competition in Omaha Beach?

Just interested in how you can split the two Bafferts.

Regards, BK

Replay from JJ

Everything is possible… but for me, there are other ways, that I feel are better… comparing the performances including how they ran through the different early quarter miles, is where I start… So for example, if one horse came back and ran a much faster internal fractions, then it would be acceptable if he slowed down a little at the end, because he ran inefficiently… while compared to if the other horse ran MORE EFFICIENTLY, but moving through each quarter mile in a more even way…

Then we can compare the efforts to the way they ran previously… So for example, if a horse was to handle a certain way of running as a 2 year old, and then able or unable to handle that same “efficiency” as a 3 year old…

I hope to have these done for tomorrow… as it happens I will be working on Oaklawn later today,

Jerry
