Here are a rating for the Kentucky Derby Contenders as if they were racing tomorrow at 1 1/8th…and we all know that the Kentucky Derby is at 1 1/4 mile, so there is more to consider and evaluate… but at this moment …
McCraken 78.5 *
Unique Bella 78.0
Tapwrit 783
One Liner 77.3
Classic Empire 76.5
Malagacy 76.0*
J Boys Echo 76.0
Royal Mo 75.8
Girvin 75.5
Gunnevera 73.5
Practical Joke 73.5
Notice in this listing, I have rated on McCraken and Malagacy as STAR horses Also note, Classic Empire ran a 77.8 as a 2 year old and is the only horse with a rating below his best 2 year old effort. We will have to see how he comes back from his abscess injury and at the moment it’s not looking very good, as he continues to miss more time and workouts…
Daily Bias Report… (to be updated tomorrow)
Aqueduct …
Santa Anita
Race Day Las Vegas Section
Thursday 3-16-2017
Santa Anita Race #2 Smuggler’s Union off at 2/1… took hold early but ran along showing great comfort, dropped down to the inside, took advantage of the big opening and raced on to an open length victory… there was some bumping going on behind him, but he seemed much the best to my eye… Winner paying $6.40… Late gate scratch on the #2. — No exacta.
Gulfstream Park Race #5 Major Key off at 6/1 slow early, then moved up nicely along the rail, seemed to encounter some minor difficulties, due in part to weak handling – in my opinion, swung outside in deep stretch and finished evenly. Maybe needed this race… or maybe not…
Friday (3-17-2017)
Aqueduct Race #7 Glotana Again off at 7/2… raced hard but could not make the lead and finished okay to be nosed out of 3rd…
Santa Anita Race #5 Indavidualist… off at 3/1… just raced terribly… as if something went wrong with the horse…
Saturday 3-18-2017
Aqueduct Race #7 Storming Monarchos off at 9/2 allowed speed to come along his inside, which was a good thing as the rail might have been a bit dead… raced in tandem for the lead throughout, extended at the top of the lane and was game to the finish, winning and paying $11.00… no exacta.
Santa Anita Race #1 Bottle Service off at 7/2, a little awkward in his run to the first turn, got hung wide while well held, the slowed down so he was forced to make a “premature” move on the backstretch and took the lead about half way through the race, then tired late, while racing quite well… This trip definitely did not go his way as he saved the SHOW money.
Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn… Untrapped off at 8/1, ran into contention, moved up on the far turn, came off the turn a close 2nd, went to take on Malagacy, but started to have trouble continuing what looked like a winning move… struggled the final 50 yards to fortunately save the SHOW.
Sunday (3-19-2017)
Aqueduct Race #4… Madison Blues, took the lead right away, which was uncharacteristic, then went along as far as he could go and tired late…
Santa Anita Race #2 Atomic Action… off at a short price…. really didn’t fire…
Race #6 Riri off at 7/2… took nicely to the turf course, while rating beautifully, started a winning move as they hit the dirt crossing and exploded to win very nicely in what appeared to be a sharp heat. Winning paying $9.00… no exacta…
