Went The Day Well, for Graham Motion and Team Valor has stuck his nose into the serious Derby Selections after a very encouraging run to victory in the Spiral Stakes, on the synthetic surface.   I mention the synthetics as a wild card type factor, which always is hard to evaluate completely.  Some horses love the synthetics and hate the organic dirt, while other run about the same on either.    These conversations will be gone over many times in the coming several weeks,  but what is very clear, certain trainers are very good at getting horses to develop at the proper time.  Clearly that is what we are looking at in Went the Day Well.  Let’s not forget, like Animal Kingdom,  this could be deja vu all over again .
