Saratoga is back…

must be cooler, but the racing will get us all heated up.  It’s a terrific card with some tremendous races.  But let’s make sure we do not overlook Guarana in the Coaching Club American Oaks – Grade 1 at 1 1/8 mile.  Now here is an important thing to consider, this filly may well be the best 3-year old, better than all the colts!  It’s something I think is quite possible.  But remember, the 3-year old colts have not flashed any real brilliance to date.  But this filly, she has an big engine and a powerful way of going!  She is light on experience to this point, but that will be a thing of the past with this race and maybe one more.

We have 12 Flat races at Saratoga (and one Jump Race).  And then a very nice 8 races carded at Del Mar.

It’s all about Del Mar today…

Saratoga has cancelled racing on Saturday, due to the “heat wave” hitting the Central and Eastern parts of our country.  I applaud NYRA for 1) Cancelling for safety of horse and man, 2) announcing it early, 3) keeping Saturday’s card in tact, and rescheduling it for Sunday ( Sunday’s card will be redrawn, I suppose).

It’s all about safety.

Meanwhile, at Del Mar, we have a tasty 10 race program, headed by the very talented Catalina Cruiser in the 4thm who will go off at 1/5 – no doubt.  I never like to bet on these, but am often willing to make smaller horizontal wagers against, if the handicapping feels right.  That’s the way I deal with ODDS ON horses that are often called “Free Bingo Squares”.  I have learned they are never FREE and they are never “automatic”, no matter how good they look.  Keep in mind Secretariat got beat 4 times and American Pharoah got beat 2 times.  And as nice a horse as CC is, he ain’t no Secretariat nor is he as good as American Pharoah.

It’s just a good card, so come out an play!
