23 races at Saratoga and Del Mar

Two great cards, but only one set of capable stewards.  Yesterday at Del Mar, Tule Fog in the 7th race, broke from the gate without a jockey.  The Jockey was not astride the horse when the Latch was sprung.  Who is at fault, the Starter, the Jockey the Assistant Starter, to be honest I really don’t know.  Maybe all three… but the question is, why should anyone who bet on Tule Fog be penalized because of these – nice people who were operating below standards!

One of our great fans, sent me stewards decisions involving 2 incidents of this in prior years, in both cases the same jockey Santiago Gonzalez …  Each of us must say something to somebody…

Yesterday at Del Mar we saw an “IRON SPEED TRACK”, so keep that in mind when you make your notes.  Positive moves in the stretch were hard to come by.  In the final 100 yards, the leaders drew clear and everyone else was exhausted and limped on in, holding their position…

While Saratoga, too 4 races off the turf, for no reason that I could see, and left the last 2 on the turf.  So the turf course should be in great shape today.  Note, the Turf course was starting to get pretty “tight” on Wednesday, but now there should be enough “give” in the course to keep it playing honestly…

Don’t forget, a couple of carryovers are at Del Mar for Friday’s action…
