Here is a thought about value in a product… on the JJPPs and JJPP-PLUS we had 10 STAR horses on Friday looking at both New York and the So. Cal …  From the total of 10, we had 2 winners paying $19.20 and $9.80 and 3 place horses… there are many ways to look at this…all the ways are good… with $29.00 in winning for a cost of only $20.00…ROI = $1.45 / $1.00 wagered… and that’s mighty good…but for someone like myself, who has a predominantly win/place wagering strategy, using weighted exactas – top and bottom… this means I am cashing 1 out of 2 tries…

Now of course there are many worthwhile plays that you can get into, and they may not all come form the Power Pages… that’s okay, but to know you are building your play book while including  robust and powerful information from the JJPPs should help you through to the winning…

Wednesday’s Play

In the 9^th at Aqueduct we tabbed, Quai Voltaire off at 3/1, which was right at it’s M/L, which tells you I think the horse had a solid “value proposition” – I try very hard to avoid underlays, so if my play is at the M/L, it probably has value in my mind.  QV broke in stride to take up the chase down the backstretch, there was no rush as it’s a long run to the turn, moved up early on the turn to get within striking distance, pulled alongside the leaders coming out of the turn… driven hard to take the lead and persevered with to maintain an advantage… won going away as the clear winner paying $8.40 and taking down the exacta.

Thursday’s Play…

Race #3 at Aqueduct, Gravitating off at 3/1 ran very well to gain 2^nd place, but wasn’t a match for the winner. Clearly 2^nd best in a good effort…we made the very good exacta.

AT Del Mar, Lassen off at 12/1, was finishing fastest of all – once finally clear.  Unfortunately, we were locked in the pocket for a very long time.  Missed the place by a head bob and looked to be the best… while finishing 3^rd… oh well!

Friday’s

The opening play was Secretary of War in the 8^th at Aqueduct, off at 3/2, SoW was off alertly taking the early lead, led without pressure, while moving at a lively pace, turned for home with a lead, but was unable to sustain his run, finishing 3^rd,.

Then at Del Mar, Manitoulin off at 4/1 in the 7^th.  Challenged for the lead through 3 turns along the outside, (not my favorite trip), but was well under control of the jock, lifted well when set down and ran gamely to the wire to get the win. Paying $10.40 and producing cold exacta and trifecta.

 “Race Day Las Vegas” Plays

Wednesday’s

Aqueduct was the home to 2 plays on Race Day today.  In the first play we tabbed an first time starter,dial Josh, who went off at a pretty big price,  broke in a slow stride, while racing as one of two back markers, offering a very modest run in the stretch finishing mid-pack, while NEVER really in the hunt.

Then in my next play, Tiznoble in the 5^th off at 6/1… broke a touch slow, then rushed up in the first quarter to be right off the pace, moved up to challenge for the lead around the turn and was in mortal combat turning for home, regained the lead at the 3/16^th pole to gain supremacy, but was caught in the final 100 yards to be the victim of a stout closing run by the favorite (who had mensa-like money puffing wind in his sails)…  Tiznoble raced to his name, and was MUCH THE SECOND BEST – while holding the PLACE.  Tabbed exacta of $13.80/$1 and Trifecta of $53.25/$1.

Thursday’s

The first play was at Aqueduct, we took a stand on Moviemaker in the 6^th off at 8/1.  This turf to dirt angle didn’t work well at all… MM was racing on the outside and from off the pace, which turns out to have been a good trip yesterday, but a terrible trip today… Still he only raced middling… with others running superior races while encountering similar difficulties… I might like this horse going back on turf… maybe…

At Del Mar, my 2^nd play of the day was Silky Spy who ran a terrific race… going to the front and improving her position from there.  She was brilliant from flag fall to finish – off at 5/2, the $7.20 win price seems generous in retrospect, but right at my published fair value…  As stated on Race Day, this was primarily a straight win bet…
