WE are well into the BC and I must feel pretty good about the results so far… My selections started with an “ALL” in the Marathon, so that worked out, as I had no opinion on htis odd 1 mile and 3/4 event. Then came the Juvy Turf and my 2nd rated horse was Outstrip, who upset Bobby’s Kitten and Bon Accord, with a big run for 2nd from the Euro Shipper, Giovanni Boldini. Then in BC Dirt Mile, I was concerned about the difficult 12 post for Verrazno and suggested the right play was a win/place bet on Goldenscents at 8/1 or higher. We only got 4/1 with one scratch in the race, Verrazno remains an enigma as he drifted out in the stretch. The big deal — handicapping wise – was teh early speed that Goldenscents has and his love of the Santa Anita oval. Today’s track again remained “speed favoring” and his early speed — from an outside post — proved to much for the others… I think Verrazano will do his best racing on the Turf, I hope he’s back again next year to demonstrate.
So what happened next was in the Juvy Filly Turf. After listening to Brian Blessing and Rich Eng, it dawned on me that Chriselliam was the right horse. The knock on Testa Rossi was her difficult post and the world was all gaga over Vorda — the sprinter who never saw a “turn”. Vorda should have been 20/1 against fillies with much better experience who are better suited by the 1 mile distance…. Vorda was no-where while Chrisellium got a perfect trip and Testa Rossi made a beautiful run for 2nd with my 4th horse Colonel Joan getting up for 3rd…
Nest is the Distaff, I am loaded up on Princess of Sylmar to Close Hatches and a smaller ticket with the Princes to Beholder… That’s my play… Good luck…
