Breeders’ Cup Day #1 is complete… is here…
The performance of Aunt Pearl and Essential Quality were both eye-popping and set this talented Juvies up for a potentially great future. We should be looking forward to many memorable performances…
Dayoutoftheoffice, looked like money as she moved beautifully throughout and looked like money in the bank turning for home, when she suddenly “got late” and was no match for Vequist who she handled with ease last out. This seemed more a case of something not right with Dayoutoftheoffice or that she simply can go only so far and not a step further or that she “bounced to the moon”, which is my guess. This happens sometimes, and the bounce happens right in the stretch and right before your eyes… but like many things in horse race… we never know for certain…
I also thought Golden Pal showed a lotta class, to go with blazing speed…
The worst ride of the day… while argueable for certain, had to be Chris Landeros on Ry’s The Guy in the 5th… he had this horse back near last after breaking a little tardy. But the horse wanted to move up the backstretch and suddenly CL had to steady hard – for no good reason. He was back near the back of the pack and running wide…just point the horse to open space!
Two seasons ago in Florida, he gave some excellent rides down in Florida and then suddenly seems to be making all the wrong moves, everytime I see him since.
The bias of he track was a little favoring the inside in the first 5 races and honest thereafter!
