Florida Derby Day, heads up massive…
Massive Pick 6 as a mandatory distribution, makes our Gulfstream Park Power Page an absolute MUST. And then at Santa Anita, we are looking at a Pick 6 carryover, in excess of $600,000.00. That will balloon tomorrow to approximately $2 Million in this handicapper’s opinion – there is plenty of pent up energy for Santa Anita racing…
In the Florida Derby, the big question surround the ultra fast early Hidden Scroll. We would wonder if he can rate more kindly at the 1 1/8 distance, instead of the aggressive way he raced coming out of the 1 1/16th race that is a questionable place to start a race from. It’s very possible, Hidden Scroll will be more relaxed and without a need to get position in just a few strides (the problem with the 1 1/16th distance at Gulfstream), could well be more dangerous.
It’s also a strange occurrence in that the Florida Derby might not have quite as competitive a field as Hidden Scroll faced in the Fountain Of Youth. And then we have more stretch for Bourbon War who seems to love the Gulfstream oval. He seems to just keep grinding along and extending his stride. He is the horse seemingly best suited by the distanced, but he has a form cycle of Paired Up Tops on a light racing schedule. This is always a FIG read that makes this handicapper a little jittery when backing this look with my cash.
Code of Honor is another with questionable form. His win in the F Of Youth was aided by a live rail and a suicide speed duel attended by Hidden Scroll. It’s pretty unlikely the will trip out today nearly as well as when he won the Fountain of Youth.
This may be a good race to look for someone who is about to run their best, but it hasn’t been so obvious, but make sure you get the big price to go with the imaginative handicapping idea…
