Weather at Saratoga could be iffy on Saturday… There was a call for 100% chance of rain overnight… and they were saying it could be very heavy…
So I handicapped accordingly… by handicapping for the first 3 Turf races, Race 1,2 & 4 for the Main Track… Races 5,10,11 are handicapped for the TURF… there was really no reason to handicap the 5,10,11 for the Main Track, because I couldn’t give you anything useful anyway… these are all real TURF horses, with little or no Dirt form at all…
The Whitney is a closely matched field with Mind Your Biscuits and Diversify headlining an interesting field that also includes some other nice horses. The big question is whether the ultra classy Mind Your Biscuits can now stretch out to 1 1/8 after going a very good mile in the MET MILE. This lifetime sprinter is trying some new distances at 5-years old. Personally, I am not loving this move.
Backyard Heaven seemed to be on his way to Grade -I status when he chucked in the Stephen Foster. But as they say, it’s just one bad race and this is a Chad Brown charge, so don’t forget this horse has a reason to be there. And of course we have Tapwrit, last years Belmont winner, but there hasn’t been a rejuvenated version of Tapwrit yet. Others in the field include McCraken, who I think is challenged beyond 1 mile… and of course Good Samaritan who has won nicely over the Saratoga Oval. And there is more… Diversify comes to The Whitney off a fantastic win at Belmont and has run his best race of his career at Saratoga, so he has a really big chance, but his odds might be hard to take… This is a very good handicapping puzzle!!!
