Congrats to Rombauer in winning the Preakness…
Rombauer came to play with a powerful stretch run. As always a beautiful ride by Flavien Prat who has to be as good a jockey as there is in the USA. Medina Sprit ran lively until they hit the stretch, and then just folded. Normally this colt fights on with a real tenacity, but not so much in this race. He should have moved forward but I would say he did not. Midnight Bourbon ran very well, taking the worst of it in chasing Medina Spirit who pushed him out whenever possible. He continued on gamely and was much the 2nd best.
Clearly, Concert Tour is not that good a horse when they put 126 lbs on his back! He has never run back to his stellar second race when he ran a 76.0 at 7 furlongs at Santa Anita… and is a terribly overrated horse… and I was guilty as well going into the Ark Derby… but at least I was not still on that losing bandwagon since. I did expect him to show more speed from the outside post… but he labored at all times in the race…
I guess it’s fair to say, that Baffert’s horses were a little dull this weekend…
