Sunday’s (5-22-2016) Power Page and PLUS for Belmont and Santa Anita are ready for download…

When you purchase the JJPP-PLUS, you will receive your Preakness PP in a follow – up e-mail …  The Classic will include the Preakness…

Exaggerator Triumphs…   Nyquist holds for show only…

Resulting the Preakness must start with the condition of the track, the listed condition was Sloppy, but in reality it was muddy.  I am basing this on time.  The final clocking of the Preakness was 1:58 3/5, which is the slowest to my recollection — ever.  I would say this is more than 3 seconds slower than the over/under which I would set at 1:55.  But consider that the running of the first quarter mile was a blistering 22 3/5, the race was actually finishing pretty poorly, relative to the norms.   Don’t take time literally, there has to be an adjustment for worsening conditions and clearly the seal didn’t quite do the job…  Mother Nature has her say…

Exaggerator — First, let’s take our hats off to the Desormeaux Brothers – they had Exaggerator ready to run and to my eye, if the race was faster, he would have done more.  I think he took advantage of a really fast pace and a perfect “ground saving trip” to  perfection.  Exaggerator had a lot to offer today and with  the setup — he was spectacular in winning.

Cherry Wine, did well to run a “suck up” place, nailing Nyquist on the line.  He did fine, doing what he was suppose to do, and he did better than Lani, Fellowship the other potential deep closers.  Congrats to Dale Romans…

Nyquist…  I believe he was mis-handled by the jock, Gutierrez, he simply didn’ t need to be on the lead at that cost.  He has always shown an ability to rate and just didn’t need to be encouraged that much as they sprung the gate… I would have preferred to see him take hold and find a trip to follow Uncle Lino and the other pretend speeds…  Defeating Uncle Lino in the first quarter mile was a poor strategy for winning the race.    As most of you know, I was a big fan of Nyquist before the race, I see no reason to change my opinion.   Back in the early 1980’s a similar trip defeated Swale in this same race…  The horses that survive these types of trips are named Seattle Slew and Affirmed…  So while I have been loving this colt,  he has definitely hit a bump in road…for those types of comparisons…

One final comment, they all get beat (with the exception of Personal Ensign)!

JJPP-PLUS… they are On-Track… at Belmont and also Aqueduct’s simulcast…
