While TOP RATED horses dominated at Belmont on Saturday, with 5 top rated winners and 2 top rated place horses out of 7 races (the other 3 races were Turf races that were moved to the Dirt – since they were handicapped for the TURF, these races were discarded). But as good as that was, it was far from the best the Power Page had to offer. In the 8th at Santa Anita the 3rd rated horse, Warren’s Assasin – rated only 1.2 off the Top Rated Incredible Journey – got the job done at 55/1. I ask you when, are odds obviously more important than small differences in horses form. Now it’s obvious — right! I am hoping that every Power Page customer at least had some sort of exacta ticket with the TOP RATED Incredible Journey who finished a fast closing 2nd.
Here is the truth of it all, Horse racing is a little messy at times. It’s not always going to follow our simple logic. Sometimes the jockey’s make mistakes or the horses run off and do something really stupid, and we saw exactly that with our 2nd rated horse, Brandon’s Princess – under 10 lb bug A. Green — moving way too early. But even with that mistake, Warren’s Assasin was a decent bet all on here own. Here are the facts, that a win place bet on Warren’s Assassin would return $112.80 and $31.80 to place. The Exacta for the TOP RATED Incredible Journey paid a phenomenal $231.30 for $1.00 wager and the Trifecta paid an okay $$385.00 for $1.00. Clearly the exacta was a much better payout than the Trifecta, which tells me many players were avoiding using Warren’s Assasin, which was totally wrong, the horse everyone should have been attracted to was Warren’s Assassin.
Sure, if you bet every 20/1 Top Three horse off the Power Page you will not win every bet, In fact you probably won’t win or place but 1 in 5 or 6. Here is my suggestion — do the math…
