Honor A. P. defeats Authentic…
Authentic had a trip as expected, rating on the outside with cheap speed pinned to his inside. In order to beat Authentic, someone would be forced to rally “on the wide”. That was the setup, as I saw it and that’s how they race in actuality! But my idea was wrong, that Authentic would simply stretch his stride out further, the further they went. Authentic did race to the wire, but he was much the 2nd best to Honor A.P. who gobbled everyone up with massive strides, the rest of his massive physique.
This is the time of year, when 3-year olds can really grow up and fill out as them move through their maturation cycle. It’s clear to me that is what is going on with Honor A.P, with this fantastic effort. He steps right to the front of the Kentucky Derby contender list from Santa Anita.
Authentic, on the other hand is a different question. Was he a “short horse” or is he really just a 1 miler or is he just not as good as Honor A. P.
