As I mentioned on Ralph Siraco’s Race Day Las Vegas radio show, Churchill Downs needs to fix the problem with the #1 post position in the Kentucky Derby. These wonderful horses, who lay their bodies down, all deserve a proper-level (within proper tolerances) surface to step on to when leaving the starting-gate. To my eye and everyone else who I have spoken with, the horse in the #1 post position is breaking on to a steeper incline which points them down toward the rail. It’s a dangerous proposition and clearly contributory to Archarchach hurting himself. Both before the Derby and afterward, this is one of the most significant comments I have heard from fans around the country… All I can say to Churchill Downs is fix it…
