Post Breeders’ Cup Analysis: Post Mortem
Friday and Saturday presented two very different race tracks. On Friday, it was very difficult to rally from behind, especially if you were not near the rail. Then on Saturday, it was playing very HONESTLY. Horses making runs from the back did very well, some like Zeewat made their late rally up the inside, while other such as Dance Card, Secret Circle and Will Take Charge (and many others )were rallying wide and strong. But saying that, horses who came to the top of the stretch with lead were able to hold well, just as Groupie Doll and Mucho Macho Man were able to demonstrate. So the conclusion is that Friday was a STrong Early Speed Bias that favored runners located on or near the inside line. The most important characteristic was being forwardly placed — I call this Big S – little i.
Then on Saturday, it was just Honest, so in my world, the notation is H.
It’s really important to understand this type of thing, because it becomes really helpful to understand who really made a good effort and who had an advantage and didn’t do enough to win.
Tomorrow there will be more commentary on Race Day Las Vegas with Ralph Siraco and then more to be posted right here…
