Dortmund Returns in Form!
The other big horse from Bob Baffert’s incredible stable, Dortmund won showing beautiful form. His stride was long and rhythmical through the stretch run and nothing in yesterday’s field could match. As many of you will remember, I picked him slightly over American Pharoah back around Derby Time. I wonder out loud if we will ever get to see them square off again – when both are in good form. It was clear to – and this is just my opinion – that Dortmund’s form was going south right around or during the Derby.
Now, here is just another thought to consider. Is Bob Baffert starting to lose some of his magical touch. It’s obvious by the outstanding way that Dortmund returned the BB can still train a good horse to do good. But suddenly his stats are not up to his normal standards and his young horses don’t seem to firing with quite the same fire. On Saturday he had three entered in the 6th and they all were well beaten, never in the hunt and in the 2nd race he had two that went off 1st and 2nd choices and again they were nowhere to be found in the stretch. That is 5 in just one day… Just sharing…
