Cezanne, inspiring or just workmenlike?
Cezanne was magnificent, but only if you were looking at his painting hanging in the museum. The horse won his 2nd race in workmanlike fashion, looking a little tired in the final 1/4 of this 2-turn affair, after he “lifted” on the turn from home to fashion a nice lead. It didn’t look so much like he was idling ot the wire, but rather needed urging and didn’t seem to have much energy when he felt the whip.
I know everyone is expecting the 3.6 Million dollar yearling purchase to add another name to the KD in September…. and maybe he will, but he will have to get faster, stronger and his wind will have to improve. Not saying it won’t happen, I just am not seeing it yet. What I do see is a nice Allowance horse, that might develop.
I find this all so interesting, because when this colt ponies on the track, he looks like a bargain at 3.6 mil! He is incredible looking, but he is simply not Seattle Slew, Justify or Affirmed fast. And no doubt, if he is that fast, Baffert will get him to show it… and I will be happy to see it.
Let’s see what he does next out. I hope to be saying he is painting a more fantastic picture next time the jock takes a leg up.
