We have been enduring changing conditions at both Saratoga and Del Mar. In the case of Saratoga, it’s largely due to weather, which has been filled with lots of rain. So it’s fair that the track super can’t be held accountable. In fact, we might say he has been marvelous in producing a very good surface to race over. To date, we have had a couple of days with a SLOW rail, after having a FASTER Rail in the opening week. I would look for the rail to get better over this weekend, so long as the weather remains FAIR.
Del Mar, well that’s a different story. On Wednesday an iron SPEED track! Down the backstretch we would see 5 or 6 horses clustered within a length of the lead, battle through the turn, and one by one horses would fall back… but the back markers couldn’t make up an inch! I haven’t seen a track so EARLY SPEED FAVORING in a long – long time… Late SPEED figures don’t help at all on this type of track, because the worst horse can get to the lead early and somehow manage to hang on. Again, I repeat, I have not seen a track like that in a very long time. And if you think I am wrong, go watch the replay and you are welcome to e-mail if you feel it’s important.
Then on Thursday, it was a more normal… and of course we had some very decent results. Not surprising at all…
However, all these difficulties in having a consistent track to race over will pay dividends for us over the balance of this meet… So stay with the Power Page and PLUS…
