Memorial Day… and horse racing…
Before we look at our past performances, ratings, STARS and Pop Out Keys – we should take a moment to reflect upon the sacrifice so many of our warriors have made, on foreign shores, to protect and preserve our Freedoms and our Constitution. My Grandad’s generation went to Europe in WWI, my father’s generation went to Europe in WWII and Korea, my generation went to Vietnam, more current generations have gone to the deserts of the Middle East… they all went to foreign lands to serve and protect.
Several years ago, we took a trip to France, part of our travels to Caan (home of the War Museum) and the beaches – Omaha and Utah and Gold, Juno and Sword – where the Allies faced down the enemy with their hail of bullets and barbed wire barricades. Walking among the fallen – resting at the cemetery by Omaha Beach, is without question, one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Knowing what they faced, the courage they showed and the will to persevere, still amazes me!
That spirit, has surely been part of our history, before and since…
