On RaceDayLas Vegas, I gave out a beautiful play, using Arriverdic Cairo as a “win/place” wager and making exacta OVER & UNDER using Meltarib, Sunburn and Ruffled Feathers.   As it happenned, Meltarib beat Arriverderci Cairo by a little nose dashing our win bets at the 9/1 odds that AC was carrying.  But, the reverse exacta with Meltarib in the win position and AC unnderneath paid a fabulous 25.50 / 1.00.   And for those who understand betting properly, you no doubt played that number more times, to insure that you were not “de-premiumed”  as is the case when the chalk beats your longshot!   There is a great deal in the first line here, especially for people who say stuff like, ” I don’t like betting against myself!”   YOU ARE NOT RUNNING, you are engaging in a wagering game, that has some definate do’s and don’ts.   Play 9/1 horses to win only, is silly beyond words because it’s financially a loser and reversing the favorite the same amount as another horse makes even less sense, considering these two facts, a) that the favorite comes in 1/3 of the time and b) the favorite is overused in the exotic.   The answer is simple, if you reverse a longshot for $2.00 with a typical horse, you probably need to reverse the exacta with the favorite for at least a $5.00 bill.   The reason is simple, you then are NOT  “‘de-premiumed”.

In Thursday’s example the top rated horse in the 7th race went off at 9/1 and ran very well, earning us a very nice  “earn” running 2nd with a place price of $7.40 and and exacta price of  $25.50 for a $1.00 wager.  In the very next race  Bull Ring was top rated and won, paying $5.80 to win.   In one case we had a terrific wager and in the other case, we had a mediocre wager at best.  The Power Page did a splendid job of showing both these horses in the bright light for you to consider!

On Wednesday, I talked with Ralph Siraco about using the Power Page.   I pointed out to Ralph that the Power Page’s  first focus is understanding the “current form” of each horse.  Because some horses do not have “current form”, I tend to treat them with a sharper pencil!  And we talked about the “Early Speed Notation” as well.  Guess what, that is going to be the subject of my next discussion.   Again I will try to keep it short.   If you have registered, don’t worry, you are automatically going to receive the new article, but if you have not registered for our updates, please do.  All names and addresses are kept entirely private.

Remember, the Power Page is great information — for people who really like to handicap!
