Breeders’ Cup arrives… and went very smoothly until the final race. Then mayhem seemed to step in when the winner of the race was a Scratch for Betting purposes but was allowed to run for purse money only. This sounds very much like the Entry rule here in the USA, which states if part of an entry scratches – then the other part of the entry races for purse money only.
But that was not the case here, Modern Games the eventual winner was not part of an entry… so when people went to cash their bets with the #1 horse in the final leg of a pick 3,4,5 or 6… they received a “consolation payoff”, which is usually no consolation at all… and if they bet straight money – they got a refund!
I for one do not see how they can do such a thing, and at the same time try to say they are promoting horse racing. A new player, who bet the favorite, in this case, Modern Games got the win, but not the winning payoff… a pretty poor performance in my opinion on the part of the committee that is running the Breeders’ Cup. I get they have a tough job, but they also need to be up to the task.

As my Mom would say, “there is nothing more exciting than watching my $2 bucks run!”
