Saturday’s combined card for Aqueduct and Santa Anita has to represent one of the most spectacular days of handicapping anyone can imagine. The caliber of horses featured are of the highest caliber, with three great sprinter/milers in Caleb’s Posse and Jackson Bend and 2011 Preakness winner Shackleford in The Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct — while on the West Coast Amazombie takes on Sway Away in Grade 2 Protrero with a VERY INTERESTING supporting cast. Of course, these are not the races everyone is so very excited to see — it’s The Wood Memorial and the Santa Anita Derby which are the the headline events. The outcome of runs by Creative Cause in the SA Derby and his supporting cast represents a collections of the highest rated horses in the Santa Anita Derby since Point Given. While the horses in The Wood Memorial have not accomplished as much as Creative Cause, this edition is really fascinating to me, as my curiosity is peaked, wondering which of these horse will move forward. And can they reach the same achieved levels as Hansen, Union Rags and Creative Cause have done in the previous performances.
This is a great day to be into horse racing, I’m glad I am!
