Take Charge Brandi kick my “buttski” on Saturday, all but assuring that she is the Champion Two Year Old Filly. I would agree! But now for some sober thought in handicapping TCB. She just ran two big races and shipped all over the USA to get to Los Alamitos. That in itself is a BIG “tado” list. Seriously, most filly’s bounce after two big efforts – especially when you include the shipping effects. But it didn’t matter to TCB, she just plows through and puts up her game efforts. Now for a discussion on the jockeys on the other horses and you might agree that being near the insde was a good place to be all day long at LA. So what does Kent D do with Dannette, he takes her back to last and swings her wide into the first turn and keeps her wide throughout! Okay, take her back to last if you like but tuck her in tight to the rail, save the ground and enjoy the faster part of the track — at least that is my take away. And was there no filly that could run 47.00 flat for the first 4 furlongs. Why didn’t someone else get there filly going a little bit and grab the lead and the rail, then if TCB wants to race forwardly, let her go on, but make certain their is no FREE RIDE on the FRONT and on THE RAIL for TCB or anyone else! I know for a fact, if Jerry Bailey was on any filly (except Dannette) he would have had her nose in front and her feet on the inside if the fraction was under 23 2/5 for the first quarter… That’s why he won so many races, never did another horse get a FREE ride on the front if Jerry Bailey was in the race… We use to wonder how he would have the 12 post and end up going inot the first turn in 3rd position and snuggly on the rail.
On this account, I think everyone would be wise to copy the best Jockey I have ever seen, ole Jerry Bailey…
