Shared Belief is now taking huge money in the future books for the Kentucky Derby. At least that’s my best guess… I wonder how low the price will go… Shared Belief was rated at 77.0* on my Power Page, quite a bit faster than some very fast 2 year olds! This is one of the highest ratings for a 2 year old I have given out is a long-long time… And she won as if I didn’t rate him high enough, I mean he was brilliant…
So how have brilliant 2 year olds been doing in the Kentucky Derby over the past several years — the sad anwer is – NOT GOOD AT ALL… The last 3 had minimal two year old racing… I remember the day’s of Affirmed and Alydar in which they battled 7 or 8 or 9 times as a 2 year old and then returned as 3 year olds and had no trouble showing their class…
I wonder if back in the day, the trainers were satisfied to race their 2 year olds without pushing them too hard and so they handled it and then moved forward as 3 year olds, while contrasted to today the trainers are forced to have the two year olds so fit so fast, that they are damaged goods as 3 year olds… They really run very big 2 year old numbers and do it with so few races…. OR maybe the Breeders’ are just doing it in such a way that the stock is not very durable…
I really do not know the answer, but I do know that Shared Belief just made my eye-balls POP…
