Improbable… finally comes to form!
It seemed almost improbable, that IMPROBABLE, would come to form, which is what he did in the Whitney. Last year, as the fav in the Kentucky Derby Improbable was well regarded, with high expectations. it wasn’t to be then but it was to be on Saturday, as he totally dominated the competition. Tom’s d’Etat broke terribly but rallied well showing off his superior stride to save the show after spotting the field 4 or 5 lengths or more. I personally do not like it when a seasoned older horse breaks poorly, I often think of it as a sign of “too much racing”, but it could simply be bad fortune. While I was taking a position against Tom who had everyone going goo-goo-gah-gah, it’s simply not clear that he ran poorly, but he wasn’t winning after that terrible beginning.
The horse I liked, Code of Honor was dull – in my opinion. Interestingly, accidentally hearing what the trainer – Shug McGaughey had to say – was a negative. Shug commented that the horse had worked so well, he was forced to enter the Code of Honor in the race. I wonder if that influenced me to be overly optimistic – I would rather play horses without listening to all the “talking heads” and let the horses speak for themselves – thereby taking my best guess. But that lament is something that won’t change all that much, because someone is always chirping in my ear.
Improbable was fantastic.
