The outstanding effort by Sidney’s Candy who was beaten the “width of a wafer” by a very race-ready Ryehill Dreamer was better than expected on Saturday in The Grade -II.- American Handicap.  With a really fast pace and preassure from a keyed up Liberian Dreamer, Sidneys’ Candy reached for the wire with every stride, through the stretch at Hollywood .  It just wasn’t good enough today.  Of course, Sidney’s Candy was still the better of the two, because he was carrying the impost of 123 lbs and Ryehill Dreamer was only tacking 116 lbs.  Such is Handicap racing, something we don’t see as much anymore, back in the day these types of races were run all the time and the weight differences were what made the race and the payoffs.   In this Edition of the American, the player’s who backed Ryehill Dreamer at 8/1 were treated to a great payoff for a savvy bit of handicapping.  But don’t confuse the smarts in the handicapping with the quality on this turf course.  Sidney gave the weight and took on Liberian Freighter only to lose by the slimest of margins — clearly the class of this group.
